MY NOTES

Man UP

Love Me and Love One Another Like You Once Did

  • ‭Revelation‬ ‭2:2‭-‬5‬ ‭NLT‬
[2] “I know all the things you do. I have seen your hard work and your patient endurance. I know you don’t tolerate evil people. You have examined the claims of those who say they are apostles but are not. You have discovered they are liars. [3] You have patiently suffered for me without quitting. [4] “But I have this complaint against you. You don’t love me or each other as you did at first! [5] Look how far you have fallen! Turn back to me and do the works you did at first. If you don’t repent, I will come and remove your lampstand from its place among the churches.

The Greatest Commandment: Love God, Love People

  • ‭Matthew‬ ‭22:34‭-‬40‬ ‭NIV‬
[34] Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. [35] One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: [36] “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” [37] Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ [38] This is the first and greatest commandment. [39] And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ [40] All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Above All: Guard Your Heart With Passion

  • ‭Proverbs‬ ‭4:20‭-‬22‬ ‭NLT‬
[20] My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. [21] Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, [22] for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body.

  • ‭Proverbs‬ ‭4:23‬ ‭NIV‬
[23] Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

  • ‭Proverbs‬ ‭4:23‬ ‭NLT‬
[23] Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.

  • ‭Psalms‬ ‭139:23‬ ‭NLT‬
[23] Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.

3 Primary Ways we Experience Heart Conditions in Life:
1. Genetic
2. Traumatic
3. Abuse or Neglect

  • Genesis 12:1 NIV
[1] The LORD has said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people (relatives) and your father’s household to the land I will show you.”

  • Genesis 11:27-28 NLT
[27] This is the account of Terah’s family. Terah was the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran was the father of Lot. [28] But Haran died in Ur of the Chaldeans, the land of his birth, while his father, Terah, was still living.

  • Genesis 11:31 NLT
[31] One day Terah took his son Abram, his daughter-in-law Sarai (his son Abram’s wife), and his grandson Lot (his son Haran’s child) and moved away from Ur of the Chaldeans. He was headed for the land of Canaan, but they stopped at Haran and settled there.

Ways We Settle Due to Unhealed Hearts:
1. In the pain of your past pain: Broken hearts and Hurting hearts

  • Romans 8:37-39 NIV
[37] No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. [38] For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, [39] neither the present nor the future, nor any powersneither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  • 1 Corinthians 3:21-23 MSG
I don’t want to hear any of you bragging about yourself or anyone else. Everything is already yours as a gift—Paul, Apollos, Peter, the world, life, death, the present, the future—all of it is yours, and you are privileged to be in union with Christ, who is in union with God.

The present, the future, they belong to you. Do you notice what is missing - the past! Why! Because your past does not belong to you. Because it belongs to Jesus. He purchased it at the cross.

MY NOTES

  • Psalms 147:3‬
[3] He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds.

  • Psalms 34:18 NLT
[18] The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.

  • Psalms 118:5 ESV
[5] Out of my distress I called on the LORD; the LORD answered me and set me free.

2. In a Place of Failure: Closed Hearts

  • Proverbs 24:16 NKJV
[16] The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again. But one disaster is enough to overthrow the wicked.

3. In a place of Success. Prideful Hearts

  • Revelation 3:17 NLT
[17] You say, ‘I am rich. I have everything I want. I don’t need a thing!’ And you don’t realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked.

MY NOTES

One of the hallmarkts of spiritual maturity:
- How Much can God release to you and you still run to him?
- How much can God provide to you adn you still pursue and prioritize him?

  • Matthew 5:6 NIV
[6] Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
  • Matthew 5:3 NIV
[3] “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

MY NOTES

4. In the shadow of the Cross; Complacent Hearts

A Call to Spiritual Growth

  • Hebrews 5:11-12 NIV
[11] We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand. [12] In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food!

  • Hebrews 5:11-14 NLT
[11] There is much more we would like to say about this, but it is difficult to explain, especially since you are spiritually dull and don’t seem to listen.[12] You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food. [13] For someone who lives on milk is still an infant and doesn’t know how to do what is right. [14] Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong.

MY NOTES

  • Relevation 3:15-16 NLT
[15] “I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! [16] But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!

There is a fire that God desires to burn in the heart of every believer

We settle for getting to heaven when the clear call of the bible to the beliver is to begin to bring about heaven on earth.

MY NOTES

  • Luke 10:19 NLT
[19] Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you.

  • Acts of the Apostles 1:8 NLT
[8] But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

  • Matthew 18:18 NIV
[18] “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

5. In a palce of Rejection Wounded Hearts

Because love and acceptance are our greatest needs, rejection is our greatest pain.

  • Jeremiah 31:3 NIV
[3] The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.

  • Hebrews 13:5 NKJV
[5] Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

  • Romans 3:27 NLT
[27] Can we boast, then, that we have done anything to be accepted by God? No, because our acquittal is not based on obeying the law. It is based on faith.

  • Romans 3:21-25 NLT
[21] But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses and the prophets long ago. [22] We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. [23] For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. [24] Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. [25] For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past

  • Hebrews 3:15 NIV
[15] As has just been said: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion.”
