James 4:13-17
Why? declares the LORD of hosts. Because of my house that lies in ruins, while each of you busies himself with his own house
1. We don’t know and we are not in control vv. 13-14, 16
[13]Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit” [14]yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.
[16] As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.
[5]Consider your ways. [6]You have sown much, and harvested little. You eat, but you
never have enough; you drink, but you never have your fill. You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm. And he who earns wages does so to put them into a bag with holes…[9]You looked for much, and behold, it came to little. And when you brought it home, I blew it away.
Haggai 1:5-9
2. God does know and He is in complete control v. 15
[15] Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.”
3. Doing God’s will starts with doing right now v. 17
[17] So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Matthew 6:9-13
