For us to understand the Holy Spirit as a teacher, we have to look at what a teacher actually does.

To be taught, you have to be
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. —James 1:5
Step 1: Ask God
But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. —James 1:6-7
Step 2: Believe that God is going to answer
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. (ESV) —Mark 11:24
If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! (NIV) —Matthew 7:11
