Overwhelming Death

5 One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. The one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God, while the one who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God. 7 For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. 8 For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. 9 For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living. —Romans 14:5-9

1. My is for Jesus.

2. My is for Jesus.

“His days are determined, and the number of his months is with you, and you have appointed his limits that he cannot pass.” —Job 14:5

3. Jesus made this . (v. 9)

The Heidelberg Catechism puts it this way:

Q.
What is your only comfort
in life and death?
A.
That I am not my own, 1
but belong with body and soul,
both in life and in death, 2
to my faithful Saviour Jesus Christ. 3
He has fully paid for all my sins
with his precious blood, 4
and has set me free
from all the power of the devil. 5
He also preserves me in such a way 6
that without the will of my heavenly Father
not a hair can fall from my head; 7
indeed, all things must work together
for my salvation. 8
Therefore, by his Holy Spirit
he also assures me
of eternal life 9
and makes me heartily willing and ready
from now on to live for him. 10

Feel as if life has no purpose? Feel as if death is meaningless? Everything a little too much?

Step towards faith in Christ. Enter the life of purpose—a life to Him. Enter the death with a hope—a death to Him.
