Small Group Study Questions

  1. What was one point, statement, or comment that particularly challenged you from this week’s sermon?

  2. Consider the differences between “happy” and “blessed.” How should that distinction change the way we think about hardships? How should it change our our view of a “good day?”

  3. The Bible is full of narratives and passages that talk about grief. What are some different types of grief that the Bible addresses?

  4. Take another look at 2 Corinthians 1:3-6 and John 14:15-17, reflecting on God as our source of comfort. How have you been the recipient of God’s comfort in the past?

  5. Part of our comfort comes from God’s Word. What are some passages of Scripture that have been a source of comfort to you in times of mourning or hardship?

  6. The final source of comfort comes from other members of the body of Christ. How have you been comforted by someone else in our church? What are some ways that you can reach out to those in our church who are hurting?

  7. Take time to meditate on Matthew 11:28-30. Why do we have a tendency to try to solve our problems on our own instead of taking Jesus’ yoke instead?
