1.THE WORD BECAME
John is clearly saying the Word, Jesus, is God.
That’s what makes the incarnation SO amazing! The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.
GOD took on flesh. THE almighty, all powerful, all knowing creator God of the universe became a man and lived as man among other people.
John is driving home that the ONE true God of Israel, had taken on flesh and brought His presence to reside, live, breathe, eat, talk, here amongst us as one of us!
2.TO
GOD
Jesus is both fully God and fully man. He reveals the Almighty. He makes known to us the God of the universe not just as messenger, but as God Himself. Jesus is no stand in. He is not middle management. He is not simply the flag bearer or mere representative of God. He IS God.
So, when we see and know Jesus, we see and know God the Father.
3.THAT WE MIGHT
AND BE
.
You see there is a God of the universe. And, in our natural state, we are separated from Him. We’re separated from Him because He is holy and perfect and we are marked by sin. We are born with a natural bend for self. We, on our own, are disobedient to the will of God. Sadly, this natural state leaves us spiritually dead and in need of salvation.
But God, in all of His infinite wisdom, makes sense of the universe by doing something that makes no sense at all!
This is not the wisdom of man! This is the grace of God! Grace because we didn’t deserve it. Grace because we couldn’t ever get it done. And grace because God didn’t owe it to us to begin with.
We are saved by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ.
God made a way to know Him and be with Him forever, if only you would believe in Jesus Christ.
