RESTORE MY SOUL
Our lives are NOT just a series of ACCOMPLISHMENTS, we are on a Journey of SPIRITUAL growth.
Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.
… They go from strength to strength, till each appears before God in Zion.
- Psalm 84:5&7
The important thing in your life is not what you do, it is who you become.
One goal of the Journey is to have a Healthy, Restored Soul
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside quiet waters.
He restores my soul.
- Psalm 23:1-3
The Soul is more difficult to define than our intellect, emotions, will or body and therefore is easily overlooked. Yet it is the “Essence of our being”, the “Core of who we are.”
And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
- Gen 2:7 KJV
We can be SAVED but not be spiritually healthy
When our soul is unhealthy, not in harmony, disconnected from God, no amount of worldly possessions or accomplishments can bring peace.
For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
- Matthew 16:26
The Key to a Healthy Soul is the ability to slow down and connect with God
He makes me lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside quiet waters.
- Psalm 23:2
You must ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life… Being hurried is a problem of the soul. It’s being so preoccupied with myself and what myself has to do that I am no longer able to be fully present with God and others. There is no way a soul can thrive when it is hurried. —Dallas Willard
Questions to Ponder:
1.How hurried would you say your life is on a scale of 1-10? (1 = calm and peaceful, 10 = constantly going)?
2. How does this affect your relationships?
3. What would have to be re-prioritized for you to be less hurried?
4. Have you ever sought a possession or an accomplishment only to realize that it really didn’t “satisfy”?
5. What brings peace and truly satisfies your soul?
Activity:
Set a timer or alarm for 2-3 set times during the day for you to stop and become “aware” that you are a “living soul”, created by a loving Heavenly Father. Allow the busyness of the day to recede and your soul to be awash in His love and peace.
Scripture memory verse:
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside quiet waters.
He restores my soul
- Psalm 23:1-3
