Luke 24:36-49

If the Resurrection of Jesus happened, what does that mean for me?

If the resurrection of Jesus is a true historical fact, then it is the single most important event in human history.

If the resurrection is true, this is what it means:

1.

(v. 39)

“He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.” —1 Peter 2:24:

There can be no Resurrection without crucifixion.

“He is himself thief, murderer, adulterer, as we are, because he bears our sins.” —Martin Luther

“..it is important to understand that the resurrection…did not cancel out the crucifixion; it vindicated the crucifixion”—Fleming Rutledge

2.

(vv. 44, 46)

If Jesus returned from the dead, then all that was proclaimed about him was validated.

“For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, nor angel, nor spirit, but the Pharisees acknowledge them all.” —Acts 23:8

“I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die.” —John 11:25-6

Jesus coming back from the dead meant that the resurrection was indeed real.

“Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.” —John 11: 25

Jesus was proving his teaching to be truth.

3.

(vv. 48-49)

“The Resurrection isn’t simply about getting you into Heaven. It’s also about getting Heaven into you.” —Ian Thomas

Verse 49: “And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you.” He’s talking about the Spirit of God coming upon those who follow Jesus. Christians call that Spirit the Holy Spirit

If you look at verse 47, one of the things that Jesus promises is “that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.”

One of the greatest gifts of Easter is this: Once you place your faith in Jesus, you receive the Spirit of Jesus within you—and with Him, you can face anything in life.

That’s the incredible thing about Jesus. He isn’t just concerned about the afterlife. He’s concerned about this life.
