Points of Meditation & Reflection

Sermon Title & Text: “If You Ask” John 14:12-14

Redeemed. Restored. Growing in the Lord. That is our theme for 2017. This month we want to deepen our understanding of what is available to us through our personal prayer time with the Lord.

  1. Through David we have seen both the need and how, to, “Inquire of the Lord”. Today, we hear directly from the Lord, “why” we need to ask the Lord.

  2. John 13-17 is known as the Farewell Discourse. It is Jesus’ last major discussion with His disciples, before the cross. Therefore it lays out what Christ’s disciples should expect after the cross.

  3. In John 14:1-11 Jesus shows that He & God the Father are one.

    a. Read 14:3-7 Thomas doesn’t understand the connection between Jesus and the Father. Jesus explains that knowing Jesus is the only way to the Father. Do you study and know Jesus enough to know the way to and will of the Father?
    b. Read 14:8-11 Philip followed Jesus but missed that Jesus was fully God. As you read the encounter between Jesus and Philip, in what ways does your understanding of Jesus need to grow?

  4. Belief in who Christ is brings three realities into our life:

    a. Our Connection v. 12
    b. Christ’s Confidence v. 13
    c. God’s Purpose v. 13

  5. What does it mean to, “ask in Jesus’ name”?

  6. From today’s message, why don’t we get every-thing if Jesus says ask any-thing in His name?

  7. Asking in Jesus’ Name connects you with His:

    a. Attributes
    b. Power
    c. Authority

  8. What is God’s glory?

  9. Re-read John 14:1-14 this week. Pay attention to your connection to Jesus and therefore to God the Father.

Lord, we pray these notes and this message are a source of strength, guidance, and spiritual deepening for us all. Amen.

Edward
