Sermon Title & Text: “Walk Worthy of the Calling” Ephesians 4:1-16
NetWorth! (Book of Ephesians) NetWorth=Assets-Liabilities. What then is the net worth of your soul? Paul writes to Ephesian Christians living in an idolatrous, money driven culture. His letter guides them to thrive in the face of the culture surrounding them.
- Every church has a specific purpose – a calling.
- Every church has a 6 fold relationship with Christ, cf. Revelation 2-3
a. Christ speaks to the angel of the church
b. Christ gives a specific attribute of Himself to each church
c. Christ has an intimate knowledge of the church
d. Christ knows the weakness of the church
e. Christ knows, has and shares the remedy for that church
f. Christ speaks specifically to each church - 5 Steps of a healthy church walking worth of it’s calling:
a. Humility
b. Gentleness
c. Patience
d. Bearing in Love
e. Eager to Maintain Unity - Spiritual leaders are gifts to equip the saints for the “work” of the ministry – the building up of the saints.
a. Until we all attain to the unity of the faith
b. Mature knowledge of the Son of God
c. Measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ A church obeying it’s call produces people that are:
a. Spiritual Grounded Adults - no longer spiritual children, tossed & carried by false doctrine (v.14)
b. Love Speakers - Speaking the truth in love (v.15)
c. Grow-Ing Every Way - Growing up in Christ, in every way (v.15-16a)
d. Built Bodies – Healthy Church makes the body grow itself in love (16b)Lord, we pray these notes and this message are a source of strength, guidance, and spiritual deepening for us all. Amen.
