Points of Meditation & Reflection

Sermon Title & Text: “Inquire of the Lord” 1 Samuel 23:1-14

Redeemed. Restored. Growing in the Lord. That is our theme for 2017. This month we want to deepen our understanding of what is available to us through our personal prayer time with the Lord.

  1. David was in a difficult time in his life, “therefore”, he submitted to God by inquiring of the Lord.
  2. We paralleled David’s experience with Jeremiah 29 to understand that, inquiring of the Lord, is an earnest, deep seeking of the Lord. And, when we search, he will be found.
  3. David’s three inquiries of the Lord are:

    a. Should I? (v.2)

    b. Let me check? (v.4)

    c. What should I expect? (vv.9-11)

  4. When you think about your current stress/anxiety level & the responsibilities on you, what is the personal value of inquiring of God: Should I, Let me check & What should I expect?

  5. Three times David inquires of the Lord in I Samuel 23. Saul never inquires of the Lord. The difference between insight and information is the prayee’s source of:

    a. Power:

    b. Understanding:

    c. Wisdom:

  6. Meditate on v.14, David has been directed to safety, Saul pursues daily but can’t find him & God is in control. What does that verse speak to you about the peace, safety and direction available to those that “inquire of the Lord”?
    Notes:
