# A Heart of Wisdom¹
“So teach us to number our days, that we may present to Thee a heart of Wisdom”. Psalm 90:12
Teach us to number our days…
1 – Learn to have only two important days on your calendar! TODAY and THAT DAY
2 – Learn to invest in those things that have eternal value! Two things will go into eternity: God’s Word and People.
Eight questions that lead us to wisdom.
1 – What is wisdom?
Wisdom is skill in the art of living life with every area under the dominion of God. It is the ability to use the best means at the best time to accomplish the best ends. Wisdom is the key to a life of fulfillment and purpose.
2 – Where does wisdom come from?
The treasure of wisdom rests in the hands of God. Since it comes from above (James 3:17), we cannot attain it apart from him.
3 – How do I attain this wisdom?
True wisdom can only be gained by cultivating the fear of the Lord. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding”. Proverbs 9:10
4 – What is the ‘fear of the Lord’?
To fear God is to have an attitude of awe and humility before Him. It is to recognize our creature-hood and our need for complete dependence upon Him in every activity of our lives.
5 – Why do so few fear the Lord?
The temporal value system of the world stresses what is seen. The eternal value system of Scripture stresses what is unseen. It is hard to give up the seen for the unseen!
6 – How do we learn to reject the temporal and choose the eternal?
An eternal perspective can only be cultivated by faith. Faith is believing God in spite of appearances and circumstances.
7 – How do we grow in faith?
Our ability to trust God is directly proportional to our knowledge of God. The better we know Him, the more we can trust Him.
8 – How do we increase our knowledge of God? The answer rests in the fact that God is a person!
How do we get to know God? What are the keys for a
deep personal relationship?
1 – Both people must be willing to get to know each other. One sided relationships are dead ends. God wants us to know Him. He is the initiator and He waits for our response.
2 – Both people must gain knowledge of each other, not
merely about each other. You can know a lot about someone and yet not know them. We can know a lot about theology and yet not know the living God. As we get to know God as a person our love for Him will grow.
3 – Both people must be open, accepting and forgiving.
Fear of rejection kills relationships. Instead of rejecting us God came to seek and save us! God knows us completely and loves us perfectly because we are in His Son.
4 – There must be time spent in communication. We
cannot become close to God unless we talk with Him and listen to His voice in Scripture on a consistent basis.
5 – Relationships are developed through action. Faith in God is trusting Him as a person, and trust is manifested in action. To know God is to love Him, and to love Him is to want to respond to His desires for our lives. (1 John 4:19)
Who is wise? Let him give heed to these things, and consider the loving kindness of the Lord. Psalm 107:43
