MY STORY
When you’re alone at home, do you wear shoes, socks, slippers, or go barefoot? As a child, did you ever peek into a wrapped gift before you actually received it? Did you ever get caught? How did it effect how you felt when you actually received the gift? Excited? Disappointed? Other?

QUICK REVIEW
In his message, Randy said that “Rebellion, sin and selfishness lead to brokenness. But brokenness powerfully helps us to see our own need for rescue.” Have you ever experienced a time when you felt like you had reached a point of brokenness? What did you do?

DIGGING DEEPER
READ Luke 15:1-2
The Pharisees were always upset with Jesus because of the company he kept and his ability to look past their sin and love them regardless. How difficult is it for you to not mimic the actions and words of the Pharisees when you see people or family members who are far from God?

READ Luke 15:8-10
This is the parable that Jesus told right before the parable of the prodigal son. He told it to the same audience. How are these parables similar? What makes them either similar or dissimilar?

READ John 8:34-36
What does this passage say that relates to the younger son in the parable of the prodigal? What does it say to us, as Christ-Followers, about our security as a child of God?

TAKING IT HOME
In his message, Randy said, “Jesus wants us to see ourselves in him. He wants us to see that we may think we have everything, but if we don’t have a relationship with Jesus we have nothing.” What are some things that we try to hold on to that could potentially take the place of a relationship with Jesus in our lives? Are there any “good” things that you are hanging on to that have replaced that relationship? What about the relationships with other family members?
