Why Does God Discipline Us?
1) To show His
For the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes those he accepts as his children. Hebrews 12:6
2) To confirm His
If God doesn’t discipline you as He does all of His children, it means that you are illegitimate and are not really His children after all. Hebrews 12:8
3) To develop our
I used to wander off until you disciplined me; but now I closely follow your word. Psalm 119:67
How Should We Discipline our Kids?
1) Discipline, don’t
If you refuse to discipline your children, it proves you don’t love them; if you love your children, you will be prompt to discipline them. Proverbs 13:24
A fool gives full vent to anger, but a wise person quietly holds it back. Proverbs 29:11
2) Never discipline with
Let your conversation be gracious and effective so that you will have the right answer for everyone. Colossians 4:6
Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them. Ephesians 4:29
3) Establish clear
Let your “Yes” be yes, and your “No,” no, or you will be condemned. James 5:12
No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it is painful! But afterward there will be a quiet harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way. Hebrews 12:11
The Lord says, “Listen to me, you that want to be saved, you that come to me for help. Think of the rock from which you came, the quarry from which you were cut.” Isaiah 51:1
4) Side with your
Can two people walk together without agreeing on the direction? Amos 3:3
5) Remember your child’s
