1 Peter 1:1-2 ESV
An “exile” is someone who is forced to be absent from their own country or home. Exiles are “strangers” in a foreign land.
Chosen to be exiles?
As part of the Father’s plan. (according to the foreknowledge of God the Father)
A result of the Spirit’s work. (in or by the sanctification of the Spirit)
In order that Jesus be exalted as Lord. (for obedience to Jesus Christ)
And “the Gospel” be “ratified” throughout the earth. (and for sprinkling with his blood)
Peter wants his readers to view themselves not as “exiles” but as “agents of hope” spreading the Gospel to all people in every nation on earth.
Agents of Hope?
1 Peter 1:3-5
Hope that is living and certain; guaranteed and guarded by the power of God.
1 Peter 1:6-9
Hope that breeds joy; transcending life’s suffering and circumstances.
Hope that fuels mission; a “vision” of Jesus and the privilege of “ratifying the Gospel” in every nation on earth.
