Facing Storms with Faith: Genisis 6-9

The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. So the Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them. Gen 6:5–7

But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. Gen 6:8

1. Receive

By Faith

And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household. By this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith. Heb 11:6–7

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Heb 11:1

By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible. Heb 11:3

2.

With God

Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation. Noah walked with God. Gen 6:9

For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward him. 2 Chronicles 16:9

Go Against the

…among all the people of the earth, I can see that you alone are righteous. Genesis 7:1

Draw Near to

Obey God

And Noah did all that the Lord had commanded him. Gen 7:5

In reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household. Heb 11:7

The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him… Ps 25:14

… your fear of him will keep you from sinning! Ex 20:20

“…rewards those who seek him.” Heb 11:6.

God Gratefully

20 Then Noah built an altar to the Lord, and there he sacrificed as burnt offerings the animals and birds that had been approved for that purpose. 21 And the Lord was pleased with the aroma of the sacrifice and said to himself, “I will never again curse the ground because of the human race, even though everything they think or imagine is bent toward evil from childhood. I will never again destroy all living things. Genesis 8:20–21

Then God blessed Noah and his sons and told them, Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth. Gen 9:1

I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. When I bring clouds over the earth and the bow is seen in the clouds, I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh. And the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. Gen 9:13–15

Just as I swore in the time of Noah that I would never again let a flood cover the earth, so now I swear that I will never again be angry and punish you. For the mountains may move and the hills disappear, but even then my faithful love for you will remain. My covenant of blessing will never be broken,” says the Lord, who has mercy on you. Isaiah 54:9–10

“…God waited patiently while Noah was building his boat.” 1 Peter 3:18

… Noah warned the world of God’s righteous judgment. 2 Peter 2:5

The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent. But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief. Then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise, and the very elements themselves will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be found to deserve judgment. 2 Peter 3:9–10

When the Son of Man returns, it will be like it was in Noah’s day. In those days, the people enjoyed banquets and parties and weddings right up to the time Noah entered his boat and the flood came and destroyed them all. Luke 17:26–27
