OPEN

Have you ever left your house open only to return home hours later to discover that you left the front door open? What are the feelings that you have as you re-enter your house?

INTRODUCTION

What are some key points that stuck out to you in the video?

READ
Read John 10:7-10
7So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. 8All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. 10The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

What is the “I Am” statement Jesus makes in this passage?

What happens to the sheep that enter the pen through Jesus?

What do you think the phrase, “If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture.” means?

DIVE DEEPER
In these verses, Jesus refers to some people as thieves and robbers. The word thieves is kleptes in Greek. Robbers is lestes, the definition of these is “someone who is an embezzler.” These refer to the false teachers who cared less about instructing others and more about making money off of their students.

Look again at verse 10. We know the thief is Satan and His followers. What is his desire for the sheep?

What is the abundant life that Jesus seeks to offer in this passage?

Do you trust that Jesus can and will give you the best life possible?

Are there areas in your life that can be further surrendered to His leading and guiding?

BIG IDEA
Jesus is the good shepherd who knows his sheep, cares for, and protects his sheep. As sheep, make it your desire to follow Jesus wherever he may lead you this week. He may lead you into an uncomfortable situation. He may lead you into a difficult conversation. He may lead you into the life of someone you don’t know yet, because you are able to lead them to Jesus. Be a sheep who will follow when it’s not easy and even when it doesn’t make sense.

PERSONAL REFLECTION

Did the thief try to kill, steal, and destroy your life before you surrendered to Jesus?

How do you see the thief kill, steal, and destroy the life of people that you know? When you see this happen, how should you respond?
