Read Scripture
The Lord observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth, and he saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil. So the Lord was sorry he had ever made them and put them on the earth. It broke his heart. And the Lord said, “I will wipe this human race I have created from the face of the earth. Yes, and I will destroy every living thing—all the people, the large animals, the small animals that scurry along the ground, and even the birds of the sky. I am sorry I ever made them.” But Noah found favor with the Lord.
This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, the only blameless person living on earth at the time, and he walked in close fellowship with God. Noah was the father of three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
Now God saw that the earth had become corrupt and was filled with violence. God observed all this corruption in the world, for everyone on earth was corrupt. So God said to Noah, “I have decided to destroy all living creatures, for they have filled the earth with violence. Yes, I will wipe them all out along with the earth!
“Build a large boat from cypress wood and waterproof it with tar, inside and out. Then construct decks and stalls throughout its interior. —Genesis 6:5-14
Introduction
1 ) Faith “is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”—Hebrews 11:1
2 ) Faith and Doubt at times both exist
a. You have to doubt in order to have faith
Examples—Mickey is born that experience builds my faith
A helpless child is sexually abused brings doubt
2 ) Three Types of people with faith
a. People who have caught what faith because of doubt
b. People who have chosen not believe
c. People who vacillate between faith and doubt depending on the situation
3 ) Faith is Trust and the question is, can you trust God?
4 ) Faith Walking is active and it build upon itself
a. It begins with worship, intimacy with Jesus
b. Moves to walking with God—getting to know him daily
c. Lastly, working for God is the result of prior two
5 ) Understanding Hebrews 11:6—without faith it is impossible to please God.
a. No faith=no relationship with God
b. “Name it, claim it” can have horrible consequences
6 ) Hebrews 11:7 declares the benefits of Noah walking with God

b. Wicked are proved to be wrong
c. Noah is considered righteous
7 ) God calls Noah to a wild act that seems completely crazy:

c. 100 miles from the ocean
d. Flood—no one understands this
8 )The call of God most of the time demands faith
a. It is bigger than us
b. It is beyond our ability
c. It is beyond our resource
d. It is sometimes defies logic
Three Requirements for Noah to walk with God
I. Noah
A. Hebrews 11:7—He did it out of fear
Understanding reverence for God
Exodus 20—Mount Sinai
Fear of God trumps doubt
B. Genesis 6:22—Noah did everything just as God called him, why?
Verse 13-21 explained what was going to happen
God’s call had context—not blind faith
C. Noah believed what logic called foolishness
D. Question: How do we know God’s call is authentic?
It is God centered
The call will not leave us
The church should affirm it
Mentors come alongside us
E. Understanding that God does not need you to finish his mission
He loves you and so he reaches out to include you
He wants to be with us
Worship leads us to moving ahead with God’s call—Isaiah 6, he saw God
F. Noah did not have moral support for his decision to say yes. No church or good people
G. His obedience saved his family
H. Psalm 19:11 — God uses servants to warn us
Key Point—God’s call is consistent in our lives
II. Noah
A. James 2:14-20 — Don’t tell me what you believe show me. Action speaks louder than words
Faith is built one step at a time
Faith is a relationship in action with God
B. Genesis 6:3 — It is going to take 120 years to accomplish this work
Noah had to adjust his life to accomplish this
He lived 950 years but he did not know how long he would live so this would take a good portion of his life
God’s time table is different than ours
C. Noah’s doubts scream at him:
You deserve results, move on
Quit so you won’t be mocked anymore
I have one problem after another in building this
My kids are grumbling
D. How does adjusting look?
Added more hours to the call
- Prioritize
Gave something up
a. Barna says 55% say they would adjust to make their lives better
b. But they are not willing to do whatever it takesStaying away from comfort
- The poison that will infect us and immobilize us
Submit to the Lord —Psalm 37:4 — He will give us the desires of our heart, it is a daily decision
Question: Are you willing to adjust to walk with God?
- It will look different for each of us
Key Point—Faith Walking demands a day to day interaction with Jesus
III. Noah
A. Building with God is difficult because we have influences that get in the way.
B. Culture gets in the way;
- Genesis 6:5, 11 — that generation was wicked so building a boat without support difficult
- Building for God today has the same opposition
People will mock our faith
a. Today, we are feeling the same with the exclusivity of Jesus so we do the humanitarian thing only
b. Faith in the Bible. Really??The Task itself becomes overwhelming
a. Noah kept commands when others missed it
b. Noah listened when others laughed
c. Noah revered God when others disregarded GodMatthew 24:37-51—Jesus warns us today using Noah as an example
a. This generation will be judged—it is coming do you believe?
b. Jesus is the Ark today and Christ alone can save
c. Once he comes back the ship door will be closed
d. We are called to get people into the arkWe build with God in a culture that stands against us
a. We engage culture
b. We don’t acquiesce to the culture
c. Striking a balance on the practical side of engagingI Corinthians 15:58 — Paul says our work is not in vain
- Can you say the things you are engaged with will last?
Key Point—Faith Walking demands dependency upon Jesus
Call to Action:
1. Take your faith from salvation to daily living
2. Listen to God’s call — Psalm 46:10
3. Choose to adjust your life for his purpose
4. Begin to build for his kingdom
