Six-Day Devotional: Death, Burial & Resurrection / Week 3

Why Did Jesus Have to Rise from the Dead?

Day 1: The Empty Tomb Proves It All

Scripture:
Luke 24:5-6 (NKJV) – “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen!”

Devotional Thought:
The resurrection of Jesus is not a metaphor—it’s a historical reality that sets Christianity apart. Jesus wasn’t just another martyr. He didn’t stay in the grave. The resurrection proved that Jesus was and is the Messiah, the Son of God, the Savior of the world.

No one else in history has defeated death like Jesus. Buddha is dead. Muhammad is dead. But Jesus is alive! His resurrection is the foundation of our faith.

Reflection Questions:
What does the empty tomb mean to you personally?

How does Jesus’ resurrection strengthen your faith?

Prayer:
Father, thank You for the power of the resurrection. I believe that Jesus is alive and that His empty tomb proves He is Lord over all. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

Day 2: Christ—The Cornerstone of Our Faith

Scripture:
1 Corinthians 15:17 (NASB20) – “If Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins.”

Devotional Thought:
Everything we believe hinges on the resurrection. Without it, our faith is in vain. Without it, our preaching is pointless. But because Jesus was raised, our faith is alive and our sins are forgiven.

The resurrection validates Jesus’ claims, confirms His identity, and guarantees our future. If Jesus rose, then everything He said is true—and eternity matters.

Reflection Questions:
Do you live daily as if the resurrection is the foundation of your faith?

How does His victory shape the way you handle challenges?

Prayer:
Father, help me to build my life on the truth of the resurrection. Strengthen my faith and deepen my understanding of what it means to be raised with Christ. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

Day 3: Resurrection Makes Life Matter

Scripture:
1 Corinthians 15:32 (NASB20) – “If the dead are not raised, LET’S EAT AND DRINK, FOR TOMORROW WE DIE.”

Devotional Thought:

Without the resurrection, life has no ultimate meaning. But because Jesus rose, everything matters—how you live, how you love, how you serve.

Your choices echo in eternity because resurrection guarantees there is life after this one. It reminds us that our work in the Lord is not in vain.

Reflection Questions:
Does your lifestyle reflect the reality of resurrection?

Are you investing your life in things that matter for eternity?

Prayer:
Father, thank You that my life has meaning and purpose because of the resurrection. Help me to live intentionally and joyfully in the light of eternity. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

Day 4: Raised to New Life

Scripture:
Ephesians 2:4-6 (NLT) – “But God is so rich in mercy… even though we were dead… he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead.”

Devotional Thought:
The resurrection isn’t just a historical event—it’s a present reality. You were spiritually dead, but now, because of Christ, you are alive. Salvation is resurrection life!

The same power that raised Jesus is now at work in you. You have been seated with Christ in heavenly places. You are not a victim—you are victorious.

Reflection Questions:
In what areas of your life do you need to experience resurrection power?

How can you walk more fully in your new identity in Christ?

Prayer:
Father, thank You for raising me to new life in Christ. Let resurrection power work in every area of my heart and mind. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

Day 5: Your Name in the Book of Life

Scripture:
Revelation 3:5 (NKJV) – “He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life.”

Devotional Thought:
Because of the resurrection, your name was written in the Book of Life. God desires all to be saved. But that name remains only when you believe and follow Jesus. Rejection, not failure, is what leads to removal.

To overcome is to believe. Faith in the risen Christ secures your place in God’s eternal family.

Reflection Questions:
Are you confident that your name is written in the Book of Life?

How can you encourage others to accept the resurrection life of Christ?

Prayer:
Father, thank You that my name is written in the Book of Life through faith in Jesus. Help me walk in confidence and share this truth with others. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

Day 6: Salvation Is Resurrection Life

Scripture:
Romans 10:9-10 (NLT) – “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Devotional Thought:
Salvation isn’t about being good—it’s about being raised. When you believe in your heart and confess with your mouth, you are made new. You are no longer living for yourself, but for the One who died and rose again.

This resurrection life is for today—not just for the end of life. You are God’s masterpiece, created to do good works now.

Reflection Questions:
Have you truly made Jesus your Lord, not just your Savior?

Are you living the resurrection life He died to give you?

Prayer:
Father, thank You that salvation is a gift and that I’ve been raised to life with Jesus. Help me to honor You by living for Your purpose each day. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
