What Does the Bible Say About Anxiety?

6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9 What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you. —Philippians 4:6-9

Wrong Belief: I believe God cares about me, but I can’t believe He is concerned with the everyday details of my life. I can’t help but worry.

Right Belief: God has promised to provide all the needs in my life through Christ. I don’t need to worry about how He will carry out that promise. i will trust Him to do it.

How to Address Anxiety?

Our anxiousness does not allow us to live longer. We are gripped by our anxiety by our fear, and none of it will add to your life. Worrying about the things that make you worry will not add an hour to your life.

Prayer is valuable in many ways, but in this issue of anxiety the Bible calls for you to not be anxious, and when anxiety has gripped you to bring it to God in prayer.

The remedy to anxiety is the peace of God.

  1. We pray in times we have set in our day.
  2. We pray when we are struggling.
  3. We pray throughout our day giving thanksgiving to God.
  4. We make specific requests.
