James 3:2
Indeed, we all make many mistakes. For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way.

THE SITUATION:
1. My Tongue

Where I Go.

We our words and then our words us.

James 3:3
When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal.

James 3:4
Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go.

2. My Tongue Can

What I Have

Proverbs 18:20
20 Wise words satisfy like a good meal; the right words bring satisfaction. 21 The tongue can bring death or life;

James 3:6
6 And among all the parts of the body, the tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body. It can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on fire by hell itself.

Proverbs 21:23
If you want to stay out of trouble be careful what you say!

James 3:7-8
All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind, 8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

3. My Tongue Who I Am.

James 3:9
9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.

James 3:11-12
He says consider the source. “Does a fig tree produce olives, or a grapevine produce figs? No, and you can’t draw fresh water from a salty spring.

Whatever is in the comes out in the water. Whatever is comes out in the fruit.

Galatians 5:16-21
16 So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. 17 The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. 18 But when you are directed by the Spirit, you are not under obligation to the law of Moses.19 When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these.

Matthew 12:34
For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.

Rid yourself of all the offenses you have committed and get a new heart and a new spirit!”

Matthew 12:37
Words are powerful; take them seriously. Words can be your salvation. Words can also be your damnation.
