This week we are talking about our Rec Room. Everyone has a Rec Room, and it is one of the more complex areas. We have different hobbies and activities. Some of us like to hang out with people and some prefer to be alone.

  • The question we tend not to ask ourselves is where Jesus fits in our Rec Room.

  • Is that really the correct question?

1. Let’s start with our

.

  • In order to figure out our Rec Room we have to how we view scripture.

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account. —Hebrews 4:12-13 (ESV)

2. How we manage our activities can lead to

.

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. —James 1:5-8 (ESV)

  • Does God give us wisdom?

  • Are we being wise if we are being pulled back and forth?

  • Why am I doubting God?

  • Why am I double-minded?

What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions (Greek: Pleasures) are at war within you? (Greek: in your members)

You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask.

You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.

You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity (Hatred) with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. —James 4:1-4 (ESV)

Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us”?

But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you. —James 4:5-10 (ESV)

The greatest lies that Satan could ever get us to believe are:

  • “This is the way it is.”

  • “You are stuck and never getting out.”

  • “This is the way it will always be.”

3. We are

for choices we make and the things we in.

your life still leads to a problem.

We are each compartment, and

is also.

In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory. —Ephesians 1:11-14 (ESV)

Your Rec Room is not your room because your body is God’s house.

The question we should ask is, how does God want his Rec Room to look?

Homework: Read and talk about it.

  • Ephesians 1:15-23 - we should be grateful

  • James 3:13-18 - wisdom from God

  • James 4:13-17 - our boasting and God’s will

  • 1 Corinthians 15:33 - character

  • Ecclesiastes 4:10 - being alone

  • Proverbs 16:28 - negative people
