KNOW HIM MORE

Text: John 1:1-2, 14

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.

14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

1. Jesus Is The Word (vv. 1-2)

  • Jesus is the eternal Word. He has no beginning. He will have no ending. Jesus is eternal.
  • The Word became something that it wasn’t (Jesus became something that He wasn’t, i.e. flesh, ) in order to reveal something to us.
  • The person of Jesus is the complete bodily revelation of God. The Bible is the complete written revelation of God. However, God still reveals His plans and will for our lives. God reveals His nature, care, concern, love, etc. in the daily course of life.

2. Jesus Is The Creator (v. 3)

  • Jesus has no beginning because He is eternal. And through Him and by Him, all things that have a beginning were created. (cf. Col. 1:16)
  • He is also the source and of creation. (cf. Col. 1:17)

3. Jesus Is The Light, The Source Of Life (vv. 4-13; Gen. 1:3, 16; 2 Cor. 4:4)

  • John says in effect, “In the beginning, God the Son created humanity and filled them with life. He then came to earth as a human to bring life again to humanity, which is spiritually dead because of sin.”
  • Only God has the power to re-create us with life. Jesus is God.

4. Jesus Is The Son Of God (vv 14-28; cf. Col. 1:15)

  • Only begotten means “unique, only one of its kind.” Jesus is the Son of God / God the Son. There is none like Him.
  • v. 18 – he (Jesus) hath declared Him (God the Father). The word declared means “to , explain.”

5. Jesus Is The Lamb Of God (vv. 29-34)

  • In the OT the question was, “ is the lamb?” (Gen. 22:7 Isaac to Abraham). In the gospels, the emphasis is “ the Lamb of God!”

6. Jesus Is The Messiah (vv. 35-42)

  • Messiah is a Hebrew word that means “ ,” and the Greek equivalent is “Christ.”
  • To the Jews, it was the same as “Son of God” (cf. Mt. 26:63-64)

Bottom line: Jesus and you will have life eternally. Jesus more and more and you will experience life abundantly.
