The Promises of God
“When I doubt…Part 1”

Promise - A declaration or assurance that a person will do a particular thing or that a particular thing will happen. Oxford Dictionary

17 God also bound himself with an oath, so that those who received the promise could be perfectly sure that he would never change his mind.
18 So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us.
—Hebrews 6:17-18

6 He made heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them. He keeps every promise forever. —Psalm 146:6

1 O Lord, how long will you forget me? Forever? How long will you look the other way?

2 How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul, with sorrow in my heart every day? How long will my enemy have the upper hand?

3 Turn and answer me, O Lord my God! Restore the sparkle to my eyes, or I will die. —Psalm 13:1-3

  1. In moments of doubt…be honest with God, confess your uncertainties, and ask Him for help.

22a “Have mercy on us and help us, if you can.”

23 “What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.”

24 The father instantly cried out, “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!” —Mark 9:22-24

  1. In moments of doubt…remind yourself that God keeps His promises.

“Are you the Messiah we’ve been expecting, or should we keep looking for someone else?” —Matthew 11:3

  1. In moments of doubt…walk by what you know and not by what you feel.

  2. In moments of doubt…recognize there will be seasons of life we do not understand.

26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!”

27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”

28 Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”

29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” —John 20:26-29
