Resolved: The Path to Wisdom
Proverbs 3:1-6
Jay Haugh

Wisdom is available today. A wisdom that brings transformation.

Wisdom is a path, not a door

Wisdom is a process, not an event.

Wisdom definition:
1. As having good sense.
2. Generally accepted beliefs.
3. A wise attitude, belief, or course of action.

”Wisdom is having competency with regard to the realities of life.”
-Tim Keller

Wisdom comes by gaining competency in the reality of God.

Pursue God.
Wisdom:
1My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments,
Reward:
2 for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you.

God’s wisdom is not a “do this because I say so.”
It’s “do this because it will help you.”

The idea behind “forget” and “keep his commands” is to guard and maintain vigilance.

Wisdom:
3 Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart.
Reward:
4 So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man.

His word reveals who He is.

God wants wholehearted trust.

Wisdom:
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him,
Reward:
and he will make your paths straight. (NIV)

If you trust Jesus, you will let the Bible challenge your most cherished aspects of life (thoughts, dreams, feelings, etc.).

No one finds wisdom by themselves.

7 Do not be wise in your own eyes…”

Wisdom doesn’t avoid hardships and suffering. It transforms hardships and suffering into more wisdom.

Man by himself cannot know God, nor the ways of God.
God needs to come down to us.

Who has ascended to heaven and come down? Who has gathered the wind in his fists? Who has wrapped up the waters in a garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is his son’s name? Surely you know! —Proverbs 30:4
“No one has ascended into heaven except he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man.” —John 3:13

God is the only one who gives wisdom.

Big Idea: The pathway to wisdom comes through the daily process of walking with God.
