Discipleship…Not Optional
Crosspointe Church is a CONTEMPORARY church with a CASUAL environment where people CAN develop an AUTHENTIC RELATIONSHIP with God. It is a place to discover Jesus Christ through RELEVANT messages, passionate WORSHIP and caring RELATIONSHIPS, as well as make Him known throughout the world.
The standard definition of “disciple” (noun) is someone who adheres to the teachings of another. It is a follower or a learner. It refers to someone who takes up the ways of someone else.
A disciple of Jesus is someone who is following Jesus, being changed by Jesus, and is committed to the mission of Jesus.-Bobby Harrington Discipleship.org
MATTHEW 28:16-20 (CEV)
Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus told them to go. 17) When they saw him, they worshipped him, but some doubted. 18)Jesus came near and spoke to them, ” I’ve received all authority in heaven and on earth. 19) Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20) teaching them to obey everything that I’ve commanded you. Look, I myself will be with you every day until the end of this present age.”
I. COMMAND (v 19 - GO and MAKE)
Matthew 22: 36- 40 (CEV)
36 Teacher, what is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37 He replied, ” You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your being, and with all your mind. 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: You must love your neighbor as you love yourself. 40 All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commands.”
Our COMMAND is not to listen to RECEIVE but listen to go REPRODUCE.
II. COMMITMENT (v20 - TEACH to OBEY)
Many of us want the Kingdom, but we aren’t willing to MAKE the COMMITMENT to the KING.
John 14:23-26 (CEV)
23 Jesus answered, “Whoever loves me will keep my word. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.24 Whoever doesn’t love me doesn’t keep my words. The word that you hear isn’t mine. It is the word of the Father who sent me. 25) “I have spoken these things to you while I am with you. 26 The Companion, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I told you.
III. CONTINUOUS (v. 20 - Until the end of this present age)
2 Timothy 2:1-2 (CEV)
1 So, my child, draw your strength from the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2) Take the things you heard me say in front of many other witnesses and pass them on to faithful people who are also capable of teaching others.
Galatians 6:8-10(CEV)
8 Those who plant only for their own benefit will harvest devastation from their selfishness, but those who plant for the benefit of the Spirit will harvest eternal life from the Spirit. 9 Let’s not get tired of doing good, because in time we’ll have a harvest if we don’t give up. 10 So then, let’s work for the good of all whenever we have an opportunity, and especially for those in the household of faith.
Primary way to make you a disciple; is for you to go make disciples. - Miles Fidell, Pastor Auburn Community
