INTRODUCE: What does your ideal sabbath day look like?
READ: Mark 2:23-28, Mark 3:1-6, Exodus 34:21, Genesis 2:2, Deuteronomy 5:12-14, Mark 2:27
PRAYER: Begin the time by praying together
DISCUSS:
1. “The sabbath was made for man not man made for the sabbath,” what does this mean to you?
2. Jesus picked grain and healed a man on the Sabbath. What biblical reason might you have to be angry at someone for disobeying?
3. Shabbat, the Jewish day of rest. What would be most helpful for you to take a rest from during the Sabbath?
4. When Jesus wanted to remind the Pharisees of God’s intention of the Sabbath, they struggled to hear his message. What would Jesus’s message look like today?
5. How are you experiencing or embracing Sabbath in your life? What are you saying no to through an act of resistance but saying yes to so you can experience rest?
6. What do you think God would have done on the day of rest after making all of creation? How are you taking time to look at what God is creating in your life?
7. Have you ever thought of Sabbath as a day of justice and resistance? What is your dream of what this could look like?
PRAYER: Lord thank you for designing a day of rest so we can experience your peace and worship you. Show us what we need to say no to and what we should say yes to so we can experience this fully.
