Who You Follow Matters

Luke 4:31-44

What makes someone worthy of being followed? If Jesus is worthy of our following, then He must demonstrate His authority against one of the most frightening things to all of humanity, confrontation with a demon. Jesus is establishing his authority to everyone.

This teaches us that:
Satan was released.
“…What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth?” Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are–the Holy One of God!” v34

Sickness was removed.
“So he bent over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her…” v39

Jesus has authority over:
Doctrine
“…because His words had authority.” v32

demons
*“Be quiet!” Jesus said sternly. “Come out of him!” v35 *

Debilitation
“…But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew he was the Messiah.” v41b

Action Points:
Make room for the supernatural.
Make time to get away and pray.
Adopt a faith that believes God can answer with a “yes.”
Adopt a faith that trusts when God says “no.”
