Second Coming Prophecy: The Messiah will return to earth as a conquering King to establish His kingdom

The Bible has many prophecies of a second coming of the Messiah – sometimes referred to as the Glorious Appearing. The events surrounding the second coming are not to be confused with Christ’s return at the rapture. The Bible tells us that the next time the Messiah returns to earth, He will actually come as a conquering King. He will set His foot down on the Mount of Olives (near Jerusalem) and walk into the city thru the eastern gate to take His rightful place on the throne. He will be the type of Messiah that first century Jews anticipated. He will conquer the armies of the earth and subdue Satan and his evil forces and establish the millennial kingdom.

Many people scoff at the thought of a rapture or a second coming. We have seen that every prophecy about the first appearance of the Messiah came true. Specific details of His birth, life, and death came true exactly as predicted hundreds of years before the actual events. Why would we ever think that prophecies of the second coming would be any less accurate? God’s Word is faithful, true and inerrant. His timing may not line up with our impatience but not one word in all of scripture has ever failed. The Messiah is coming again – both to get His bride, the church, and claim His throne as an eternal king. Hallelujah – even so, come Lord Jesus.

Q1. The Lord tells us that the church will accompany Him as He comes to conquer the forces of Satan. What do you think you will be doing as the Messiah fights the final battle?

Q2. The Bible tells us that when Christ comes again, every knee will bow and praise Him – even the rocks will cry out in praise. What will the reaction be of those who have rebelled against Jesus their entire lives? What do you think will happen when people realize that the truth they denied is really true and that they have no more opportunities to say yes to Jesus?

Q3. Are you looking forward to Christ’s return with excitement or a twinge of fear? What can you do today to remove any fear and feel that you are anxious to meet the Savior face to face?

I can only imagine what it will be like, when I walk by Your side, I can only imagine what my eyes will see
Will I stand in Your presence, or to my knees will I fall,
Will I sing, Hallelujah? Will I be able to speak at all?
I can only imagine when that day comes
I can only imagine when all I will do, is forever, forever worship You
Surrounded by Your glory, What will my heart feel?
Will I dance for You Jesus? Or in awe of You be still?

PRAYER FOCUS: Lord, help me to live each day with the knowledge that the battle is Yours. We read in Job “I know that my redeemer lives and in the end, he will stand upon the earth.” Praise God, You are coming again to make all things new. Help me to live with confidence and peace and joy because I know that I am redeemed and my God will one day show the world that He has been in charge all along.
