MY STORY
Who was your first boyfriend or girlfriend? What was he or she like?

Why do you think divorce is so prevalent?

QUICK REVIEW
READ Ephesians 5:21-33
Greg talked about the idea that to submit doesn’t mean to obey, it means a one directional kind of love, but that it is to be mutual. Why does our culture rebel against the idea of submission so much? When have you seen a godly example of submission in a marriage?

DIGGING DEEPER
READ Hebrews 9:11-15
A covenant is a binding agreement. In this passage, it is between God and mankind. Jesus is the mediator, go-between, for this covenant. How does this covenant display the grace of God toward us? What would our lives be if God reneged on His part of the covenant?

READ Colossians 3:12-19
Why does God connect verses 12-17 with verses 18-19? What is the connection between the Gospel (the Good News of Jesus) and the marriage covenant?

TAKING IT HOME
Greg said that the marriage covenant is to display the Gospel. The Gospel is a message of grace, not works. Therefore, the marriage is not meant to be lived out based on works, but rather through grace. How have you tried to make your marriage “works based”? How have you based your marriage on performance and not grace? What changes do you need to make in order to be a spouse who lives in grace and not works?
