“O LORD, hear…listen…take action.” —Daniel 9:19 NASB

The Kingdom of God and the Messiah is coming

Know therefore and understand that from the going out of the word to restore and build Jerusalem… —Daniel 9:25

And the people of the prince who is to come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. Its end shall come with a flood, and to the end there shall be war. Desolations are decreed. —Daniel 9:26

Israel will be deported again

And he shall make a strong covenant with many for one week, and for half of the week he shall put an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall come one who makes desolate, until the decreed end is poured out on the desolator. —Daniel 9:27

The Kingdom of God is postponed

The mystery is the church age

This mystery is that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus. —Ephesians 3:6

Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church, of which I became a minister according to the stewardship from God that was given to me for you, to make the word of God fully known, the mystery hidden for ages and generations but now revealed to his saints. To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.—Colossians 1:24-27

“I will hide my face from them [Israel]; I will see what their end will be, for they are a perverse generation, children in whom is no faithfulness. They have made me jealous with what is no god; they have provoked me to anger with their idols. So I will make them jealous with those who are no people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.” —Deuteronomy 32:20-21

“And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and pleas for mercy, so that, when they look on me, on him whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for any only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps over a firstborn.” —Zechariah 12:10

BIG IDEA

God never forgets His promises, His people or the future He has with them.

Study Guide

Our small groups are on their summer schedule. Each week this summer we will be supplying study guide questions for you and your family to process. After you have completed the study guide, decide what next step you plan to take as a result of what you heard and write it down.

  1. Name all the things that have literally taken place from Daniel’s prophecy (v.24-27). What does that say about God?

  2. What are the things that are still yet to come (future)?

  3. What is God doing in between the Messiah being “cut off” and the last 7-year period? Explain.

  4. What is the “mystery” that was referenced in the message? What is the mystery Paul speaks of in his letters (e.g. Eph. 3, Col. 1)?

  5. Why does Paul call the Church a mystery? (See Deut. 32:20-21).

  6. How does this prophecy help you pursue God better? Pursue Others?

  7. What truths or promises from this passage do you need to arm yourself with this week? Explain.
