Jeremiah 23:5-6 (NLT) “For the time is coming,” says the Lord, “when I will raise up a righteous descendant from King David’s line. He will be a King who rules with wisdom. He will do what is just and right throughout the land. And this will be his name: ‘The Lord Is Our Righteousness.’ In that day Judah will be saved, and Israel will live in safety.”
We can trust the Lord to make all things right because:
1. God is
.
John 1:14 (NIV) The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Psalm 33:4-5 (NCV) God’s word is true, and everything he does is right. He loves what is right and fair; the Lord’s love fills the earth.
Revelation 19:11 (NASB) And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and he who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and wages war.
2. God has come to us as the righteous
.
Jesus is the promised Messiah of this prophecy. He came:
๏ In right relationship with the Father.
John 8:29 (NIV) The one who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what pleases him.
๏ To live a sinless life of obedience to the Father.
Philippians 2:7b-8 (NLT) When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.
๏ To die on the cross to pay for our sins and restore our relationship with the Father.
Romans 5:10 (GW) If the death of his Son restored our relationship with God while we were still his enemies, we are even more certain that, because of this restored relationship, the life of his Son will save us.
3. God has made us righteous
.
Luke 18:9-14 (NIV) Then Jesus told this story to some who had great confidence in their own righteousness and scorned everyone else: “Two men went to the Temple to pray. One was a Pharisee, and the other was a despised tax collector. The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed this prayer: ‘I thank you, God, that I am not like other people—cheaters, sinners, adulterers. I’m certainly not like that tax collector! I fast twice a week, and I give you a tenth of my income.’ But the tax collector stood at a distance and dared not even lift his eyes to heaven as he prayed. Instead, he beat his chest in sorrow, saying, ‘O God, be merciful to me, for I am a sinner.’ I tell you, this sinner, not the Pharisee, returned home justified before God. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV) For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.
2 Corinthians 5:21 (NLT) For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.
God imparts His righteousness to us which brings us great:
๏
Romans 5:1 (NLT) Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.
๏
Psalm 32:1-2 (NLT) Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight! Yes, what joy for those whose record the Lord has cleared of guilt, whose lives are lived in complete honesty.
๏
Hebrews 4:16 (NIV) Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
1 John 5:13-14 (NLT) I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life. And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him.
4. God promises that righteousness and justice will
in the end.
Romans 12:19 (CEV) Dear friends, don’t try to get even. Let God take revenge. In the Scriptures the Lord says, “I am the one to take revenge and pay them back.”
Zechariah 7:9 (NIV) This is what the LORD Almighty said: “Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another.”
