Islam - Message Study Questions
Message Summary
Muslims are people just like you and me with the same feelings, the same fears and the same desire for relationships. Christians can and should seek relationships with Muslims in their sphere of influence and share their faith and the love of Jesus. Muslims believe only the Quran is God’s pure word and that the Bible was corrupted. But in fact, the same Bible we have today existed uncorrupted centuries before Islam was born. Muslims believe that God (Allah) is a distant absolute unity who doesn’t have personal relationships with anyone else. Christians believe that God is one and relational by His nature. Hence God is unity, with three persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, existing in a loving relationship from eternity. And this personal God desires a deep, loving relationship with people. Muslims believe salvation comes through five pillars of faith and works, whereas Christians believe that salvation comes through faith alone as a gift. Don’t be afraid to discuss your faith with a Muslim. When giving your answer to everyone who asks (1 Peter 3:15), make at least 3 points and back them up with scripture. 1. I know God loves me and wants a relationship with me. 2. I know I have eternal life in heaven. 3. And I know I am forgiven. Jesus died on the cross to pay for my sins so that I could become righteous before God.
Why do people follow Islam, or any other religion for that matter?
Do you think Muslims can be saved without faith in Jesus, the divine Savior? Why or why not?
Consider This
Eternal self-existence (independence from creation) + personality = Trinity. Love and communication require an object to love and someone to communicate with. Only within the Trinity can God be self sufficient and possess personal, eternal attributes with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit loving and communicating with one another before the creation. Hence, because God is relational in His essence, the Trinity is not only logical, but the only way God can be God.
How do you know God loves you?
How do you know for sure that you have eternal life?
Are you a child of God? How do you know?
How do you know your sins are forgiven?
*see below for cheat sheet versesHow would you respond to the Muslim accusation that Christians’ worship three Gods, and that three persons in One God are illogical? Review Isaiah 43:10-11, Deut 6:4, 1 Corinthians 8:4-6.
How is a person saved (given eternal life in God’s heaven)? Read John 3:16-18, 8:24, 14:6 and Acts 4:12.
- Is there any other way?
- How does that affect the way you view people trapped in Islam?
- What can you do about it?
Consider This
Muslims dismiss the Bible as corrupt. However, although the Koran accuses the Jews of misquoting the Old Testament, it never accuses Christians of misquoting or corrupting the Gospel. On the contrary, the Koran commanded Muhammad to consult the Scriptures to confirm his revelation (Q 10.94, 13:43), and commanded Jews and Christians to observe the Torah and the Gospel (Q 5:65-69). Hence, the Bible was uncorrupted in Muhammad’s day (570- 632 AD), a time when thousands of copies of the bible existed in many languages in many kingdoms from Ireland to Europe to North Africa to India. No reputable historian would claim that the Bible we have today is materially different from Codex Sinaiticus, a copy of the Bible dated from the Fourth Century AD—two hundred years before Muhammad (not to mention the Dead Sea Scrolls Dated approx 100 BC and other early manuscripts).
- The Koran encourages forgiveness but allows for revenge (Q 42: 40-43). How would our society be different if this was the social norm, or maybe the law of the land?
Moving Forward – Application
When talking with a Muslim, you must first try to gain their trust and respect by showing them love and respect. Once you establish a relationship, you earn the right to ask questions. For a reference, see Christ Above All by Daniel Shayesteh available at Amazon, which contains great questions. The Koran can be readily accessed online to check references.
