Day 187 - Withdraw Often

Cathy Anderson

“Yet the news about Him spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear Him and to be healed of their sicknesses. 16 But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” – Luke 5:15-16 NIV

It is essential to become part of the Body of Christ by serving, joining a click, helping out where you see a need, etc. However, even the Son of God would “often withdraw” to lonely places to pray. He needed to be filled, and He needed to be alone with His Father. He needed to seek and find.

If Jesus Himself took time out of the busyness of ministry to pray, isn’t it prideful to think we don’t need to do the same? As believers, we must make a habit of living in godly community but also making time to be alone with God!

Next Steps

  • Think about it: Do you “often withdraw” to pray? Why or why not?

  • Think about it: When do you have time to be alone and pray?

  • Action Step: Evaluate your schedule. Find time to pray alone and put it in your calendar. If you don’t find time, make time!

  • Action Step: Evaluate your motives. Are you praying because you have to, or are you praying because you get to? The best way to know if you are in the right mindset is to pray and commit your plans to the Lord.
