Enter His gates with thanksgiving And His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name.
Psalm 100:4 NIV

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
Philippians 4:6

I. There may be two reasons people often don’t get the principle of Thanksgiving right away:

  1. We give thanks only for the things we feel thankful for.
  2. We speak words of thanksgiving out of habit without truly feeling grateful.

II. If we find ourselves complaining instead of recognizing God’s hand in our circumstance, there may be some reasons for this:

  1. Greed: We’re not satisfied with what we have and are unable to feel grateful until we have everything we want.
    Proverbs 11:28, Jeremiah 9:23-24

  2. Lack of faith- We doubt that God is watching over us and fear our current situation will ultimately result in harm.
    Jeremiah 29:11-14

  3. Entitlement – We feel like we’ve earned or deserve any good thing in our life and, therefore, don’t see the need to thank anyone for our blessings.
    Colossians 3:12-15

  4. Pride - We believe we shouldn’t have to suffer, and we feel resentful when God lets us face trials.

  5. Blind Spots - We have blind side to the suffering of those in worse circumstances than ours to those people who would be glad to have just a fraction of the privileges we enjoy.
    James 1:17

O come, let us sing for joy to the LORD, Let us shout joyfully to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms. For the LORD is a great God And a great King above all gods,
In whose hand are the depths of the earth, The peaks of the mountains are His also.
The sea is His, for it was He who made it, And His hands formed the dry land.
Come, let us worship and bow down, Let us kneel before the LORD our Maker.
For He is our God, And we are the people of His pasture and the sheep of His hand. Today, if you would hear His voice,

Psalm 95:1-7
