Who Is Jesus?

Then the eleven disciples left for Galilee, going to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him—but some of them doubted! —Matthew 28:16-17

A faith without some doubts is like a human body without any antibodies in it. People who blithely go through life too busy or indifferent to ask hard questions about why they believe as they do will find themselves defenseless against either the experience of tragedy or the probing questions of a smart skeptic. —Timothy Keller (The Reason For God)

Big Question: How can Jesus be the only way to Heaven?

Who is Jesus?

1.) Jesus was a real person.

Josephus, Thallus, Pliny the Younger, Tacitus, & Suetonius

Who is Jesus?

1.) Jesus was a real person.
2.) Jesus caused radical transformation in people.

This letter is from James, a slave of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ. —James 1:1

and Jesus’ brothers said to him, “Leave here and go to Judea, where your followers can see your miracles! 4 You can’t become famous if you hide like this! If you can do such wonderful things, show yourself to the world!” 5 For even his brothers didn’t believe in him. —John 7:3-5

When his family heard what was happening, they tried to take him away. “He’s out of his mind,” they said. —Mark 3:21

Who is Jesus?

1.) Jesus was a real person.
2.) Jesus caused radical transformation in people.
3.) Jesus made ridiculous proclamations.

The Father and I are one. —John 10:30

From then on Jesus began to tell his disciples plainly that it was necessary for him to go to Jerusalem, and that he would suffer many terrible things at the hands of the elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of religious law. He would be killed, but on the third day he would be raised from the dead. —Matthew 16:21

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. —John 14:6

Jesus gave the most exclusive statement of inclusivity.

Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. 26 Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this?” —John 11:25-26

Pilate responded, “Then what should I do with Jesus who is called the Messiah?” —Matthew 27:22

You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to. —C.S. Lewis
