Psalm 8 and 111 - Locating Ourselves in Glory
July 24, 2022

Summer in the Psalms
Teach us how to sing

Psalm 111

Psalm 8

How do these songs give shape to the song of our heart?

1). True and Beautiful

Small and Big bear witness

Psalm 111
Precepts - Law
God’s design is glorious

Heavens testify
Science only magnifies the truth

2). Clean out the idols

We have put so many things on the throne that don’t belong
Hard to see it

Can they compare?
Money, Power, Position?
Boyfriend, politician, influencer?

3). Locate ourselves

Locate something that is lost, you need a fixed point

In Psalm 8, it is only after describing God, does David talk about our place…
Tied to God’s design - that’s what makes it praiseworthy

Cultivate, reign

Every aspect
Denial of such is a denial of God’s good design
Hiding your light, burying your talent
Designed to bear fruit
Our creativity, use of our gifts, making - is located not in our ability, but in the creator God.

Martin Luther:

O God … I confess to thee that I am not worthy to rock the little babe or wash its diapers or to be entrusted with the care of the child and its mother. How is it that I, without any merit, have come to this distinction of being certain that I am serving thy creature and thy most precious will? Now you tell me, when a father goes ahead and washes diapers … God, with all his angels and creatures, is smiling. Those who sneer at him … are ridiculing God. —Martin Luther
