In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea and saying, “Repent, because the kingdom of heaven has come near! ” For he is the one spoken of through the prophet Isaiah, who said: A voice of one crying out in the wilderness: Prepare the way for the Lord; make his paths straight! Now John had a camel-hair garment with a leather belt around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey. Spend a few moments meditation on this quote from Thomas Merton, “Since God alone possesses the secret of my identity, He alone can make me who I am or rather, He alone can make me who I will be when I at last fully begin to be.” How does this help us understand the embracing of falsehood?
How can you see the falsehood that exists in your heart? How can you speak with others in the church about falsehood that may exist in their lives?
How does it feel to know that the Holy Spirit will bring to light the falsehood in our lives?
How does clearing the path of our lives from falsehood help smooth the path for others to come to Jesus?
To prepare for next week: Read and meditate on Matthew 4
