I. Blessed or Happy are those who are pure in heart.

A. Who is pure of heart?

  1. NO ONE IS PURE OF HEART!

Romans 3:23 NLT
For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.

Jeremiah 17:9-10 NLT
“The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? But I, the Lord, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve.”

B. Why would Jesus ask us to be pure in heart when he knows it is humanly impossible?

  1. Jesus introduces a new Kingdom order.

Isaiah 1:18 NKJV
“Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the Lord, “Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they be red like crimson, They shall be as wool.”

1 John 1:8-9 NKJV
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

2. The human heart struggles with purity.

Proverbs 4.:23 NLT
Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.

James 4:8 NLT
Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.

3. Only the pure in heart see God!

II. Blessed and Happy are the pure in heart because they WILL SEE GOD!

A. Who has seen God?

  1. NO ONE HAS SEEN GOD!

1 Timothy 1:17 NIV
Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

1 Timothy 6:16 NIV
…who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see.

Colossians 1:15 NIV
The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

John 1:18 NLT
No one has ever seen God …

2 Corinthians 4:4 NIV
The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

2. Everyone wants to know if God is real. Everyone wants to see God.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 NLT
He (God) has planted eternity in the human heart, …

John 14:8 NIV
Phillip said, “Lord, show us the Father …”

John 12:21 NKJV
“Sir, we wish to see Jesus.”

B. Why would Jesus declare that the pure in heart WILL SEE GOD?

  1. Jesus established a new Kingdom order of spiritual sight.

  2. A purified heart allows humanity to SEE into the spiritual world.

Genesis 32:30 NLT
Jacob named the place Peniel (which means, “face of God”), for he said, “I have seen God face to face, yet my life has been spared.”

Exodus 24:9-10 NLT
Then Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel climbed up the mountain. There they saw the God of Israel.

Job 42:5-6 NLT
“I had only heard about you before, but now I have seen you with my own eyes. I take back everything I said, and I sit in dust and ashes to show my repentance.”

Isaiah 6:1 NLT
It was in the year King Uzziah died that I saw the Lord.

2 Kings 6:17 NLT
Then Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes and let him see!” The Lord opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire.

3. God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God.

John 5:19 NLT
“I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does.”

4. This is a great and grand narrative of the Christian faith:

We can SEE and JOIN with God in His work in our lives and in His church.
