Message Description

Demas is only mentioned a couple of times in Scripture, but there’s a world of difference between the first mention and the last. He started out so strong with so much promise but ended in complete defeat. And what we need to learn from Demas’ life is that, at the end of the day, compromise leads to ruin.

Key Scripture

2 Timothy 4:10

1. Stage #1: He started out .

2 Timothy 4:10

Note: Verse 10a speaks not only of his present

, but his past . Philemon 1:24

You can be certain of this… the Apostle Paul only took with him those he knew had a love and devotion to Christ. Acts 15:36–38

At this stage in Demas’ life, I can’t help but wonder how many times he heard Paul say to him, “Demas, let him who thinks he stands, take heed lest he fall.” (1 Corinthians 10:12)

2. Stage #2: He begins to .

Colossians 4:14; Proverbs 14:14

Note: Moving away from Jesus always begins in a

.

Where at one time he would only look at the world, now he begins to look twice and the pull of the world is getting harder and harder to resist. Now don’t miss this… whenever you begin to look twice… you are on the road to disaster.

The Downward Spiral

At first…

Jesus… none of the world.
Jesus… partly world.
Jesus… mostly world.
of Jesus… all world.

Note: When the world moved into Demas’ heart…

!

Three words you don’t ever want to forget

Proverbs 5:1–2; Joshua 24:15

3. Stage #3: Full blown !

But, Worst of All…

He

his Lord!
