The battle is real and the consequences have profound ramifications in your life, our society, and for all eternity

“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 8:12

“This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.”
1 John 1:5

The spiritual reality is that when we live in sin we are submitting ourselves to Satan’s ways, not God’s.

“Though you already know all this, I want to remind you that the Lord at one time delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe. And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling—these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day.”
Jude 1:5-6

“For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them in chains of darkness to be held for judgment;”
2 Peter 2:4

“And I will keep on doing what I am doing in order to cut the ground from under those who want an opportunity to be considered equal with us in the things they boast about. 13 For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.”
2 Corinthians 11:12-15

We are living in times of darkness and you cannot expect people who live in darkness to make decisions that reflect the light of Christ.

“For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves,”
Colossians 1:13

For wherever you refuse to let the light of God shine, the devil has access to.

“In your anger do not sin:” Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold. Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.”
Ephesians 4:26-28

Do you have any footholds in your life where darkness may be hiding?

Another example of darkness is anger.

Pride is also an area of darkness.

Bring light into the darkness.

  • Resist the devil, resist the draw of darkness

“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
James 4:7

“Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are healthy, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are unhealthy, your body also is full of darkness. See to it, then, that the light within you is not darkness. Therefore, if your whole body is full of light, and no part of it dark, it will be just as full of light as when a lamp shines its light on you.” Luke 11:34-36

“Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret.”
Ephesians 5:11-12

  • Let your light shine wherever you are.

“Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Matthew 5:15-16
