DEFINING THE UNION
“Haven’t you read the Scriptures?” Jesus replied. “They record that from the beginning ‘God made them male and female.’And he said, “‘This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.’Since they are no longer two but one, let no one split apart what God has joined together.” —Matthew 19:4-6 NLT
Welcome to Back To Eden, a 30 day devotional designed with married couples of all ages and stages in mind.
Outside of the decision to follow Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, the choice of your spouse is the next most important. This institution was created by God, in fact not only was God himself the original matchmaker, but He presided over the first wedding.
The Bible has so much to say on this topic, and we assure you if you commit to showing up each day for the devotional and complete the assignments, both individually and as a unit, you will receive the greatest benefit and blessing from this devotional.
Before we continue any further, it is important to clearly define what a marriage is as Biblically outlined.
It’s when a man leaves his father and his mother and becomes joined to his wife, and the two become one flesh. Marriage then is the covenant relationship between one man and one woman before God.
In the world today, there are many definitions recognized as marriage, yet according to Matthew 19:4-6, we clearly see that God’s design for marital relationship is heterosexual, not homosexual, and monogamous, not polygamous.
Prayer
*Father, we thank you for the beautiful institution of marriage that you have created and ordained. We thank you for blessing us with our beloved spouse. Give us the capacity and bandwidth to pursue your Word and each other over the next 30 days as we seek Your heart for our Union. We surrender ourselves and our union to You. Have your way
in our lives and our Marriage and we will be mindful to give You all the glory in Jesus Name. Amen.*
Reflection:
Create a time that you will view the devotional every day. The daily submissions will be short and bite sized, but it is better viewed together, even if the assignments call for separation of duties.
Get an individual Journal to personally process and/or complete assignments as given over the next 30 days.
Join a Marriage Small Group, if you have not already done so.
