Sabbath is more than a rule, it’s a gift.
Mark 2:27
“27 Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.”
Exodus 16:29
“29 Bear in mind that the Lord has given you the Sabbath; that is why on the sixth day he gives you bread for two days. Everyone is to stay where they are on the seventh day; no one is to go out.”
Stop. Rest. Delight. Worship.
We stop working. We stop worrying. We stop wanting.
Genesis 2:2
“2 By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.”
“People who sabbath live all seven days differently.” – Walter Bruegmann
Exodus 23:10-12
“10 “For six years you are to sow your fields and harvest the crops, 11 but during the seventh year let the land lie unplowed and unused. Then the poor among your people may get food from it, and the wild animals may eat what is left. Do the same with your vineyard and your olive grove.12 “Six days do your work, but on the seventh day do not work, so that your ox and your donkey may rest, and so that the slave born in your household and the foreigner living among you may be refreshed.”
Stopping is a test of faith.
Rest is a weapon.
Psalm 3:1-6
“1 Lord, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me! 2 Many are saying of me, “God will not deliver him.” 3 But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. 4 I call out to the Lord, and he answers me from his holy mountain. 5 I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me. 6 I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side.”
Genesis 1:31
“31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.”
We delight in what He has made good.
Psalm 37:4
“4 Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
Genesis 2:3
“ 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.”
Hebrews 4:1
“Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it.”
