âBe A Giver Not A Grabberâ

We can never look more like our Heavenly Father than when we are extravagant Givers!
Proverbs 11:24 (ESV) 24 One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want.
Be A Giver Not A Grabber
2 Corinthians 8:1-7 (ESV)
1 We want you to know, brothers, about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia, 2 for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. 3 For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord, 4 begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saintsâ 5 and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us.6 Accordingly, we urged Titus that as he had started, so he should complete among you this act of grace. 7 But as you excel in everythingâin faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in our love for youâsee that you excel in this act of grace also.
1. Live Life of
1 Timothy 6:6-10, 17-19 (ESV) 6 But godliness with contentment is great gain, 7 for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world.8 But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. 9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. 17 As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. 18 They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, 19 thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.
It is a Kingdom of GraceâŠand Grace is not Grace without something being Given.
As important as money may be, we are all aware that there are some things it canât buy. Consider these examples:
Money can buy medicine, but not health.
Money can buy a house, but not a home.
Money can buy companionship, but not friends.
Money can buy entertainment, but not happiness.
Money can buy food, but not an appetite.
Money can buy a bed, but not sleep.
Money can buy a crucifix, but not a Savior.
Money can buy the good life, but not eternal life.
God owns it all!
2. Live a Life
2 Corinthians 9:6-11 (NIV) 6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. 9 As it is written: âThey have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.â
10 Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. 11 You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
God Prospers Us Not To Raise Our Standard of Living, But To Raise Our Standard of Giving
Stewardship is managing Godâs treasures in Godâs way, for Godâs purposes, and always for Godâs glory.
3. Live a Life of
3 Marks of a Grabber and Close-Fisted Person:
1. They Live
Proverbs 11:24 (ESV) 24 One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want.
2. They Live a Life of
Malachi 3:6-12 (ESV) 6 âFor I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed. 7 From the days of your fathers you have turned aside from my statutes and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you, says the Lord of hosts. But you say, âHow shall we return?â 8 Will man rob God? Yet you are robbing me. But you say, âHow have we robbed you?â In your tithes and contributions. 9 You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing me, the whole nation of you. 10 Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need. 11 I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of your soil, and your vine in the field shall not fail to bear, says the Lord of hosts. 12 Then all nations will call you blessed, for you will be a land of delight, says the Lord of hosts.
3. Live a Life of
When We Go From Being Close-Fisted To Open-Handed, We Become A Giver And Not A Grabber
What happens in the life of a believer when we make a decision to move from being a Grabber to becoming a Giver? We will realize 3 things:
1. Giving to
Living a lifestyle of generosity is a process and itâs something we grow into as part of our sanctificationâŠbut itâs not something that we can just ignore or put off. There is far too much biblical support about Godâs people tithing and being known by our generosity to just not talk about it.
1 John 3:16-18 (ESV) 16 By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. 17 But if anyone has the worldâs goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does Godâs love abide in him? 18 Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.
2. Godâs Investment
2 Corinthians 9:6-8 (NIV) 6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
*Kingdom Principle: Our Reaping is in Direct Proportion To Our Sowing
3. Our Lives Become Far
Matthew 6:25-33 (ESV) 25 âTherefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? 28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, âWhat shall we eat?â or âWhat shall we drink?â or âWhat shall we wear?â 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
If God Can Get It Through You, He Will Get It To You!
2 Corinthians 8:7 (NIV)
7 But since you excel in everythingâin faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in youâsee that you also excel in this grace of giving.
