Going Deeper
Day 1
Sermon Reflection: Psalm 80 along with several other psalms ( Psalms 23, 28:9) speak of GOD as a Shepherd. Likewise, there are several psalms that address Christians as the flock ( Psalms 95:7; 119:176; 79:13; 100:3.
Question: What are some of the attributes of a good shepherd that exemplifies God’s character and what are to be the responses of Christians as the flock?
Study Text: Psalm 23:1-4
Day 2
Sermon Reflection: Christians can rely on God’s protective shepherding throughout our life journeys. Paralleled to this is having to face the judgement and wrath of God, which is not as gleeful as his promises.
Question: With reference to Romans 1:18 and 2;5 how is God’s wrath portrayed as being a just response to sin?
Study Text: Proverbs 24:12
Day 3
Sermon Reflection: The contents of verse 3 is repeated exactly in verses 7 and 19 and intensely calls to God for restoration of his people after a period of suffering.
Question: What does this intense plea suggest about how God was perceived in Psalms 80? How do you envision God when fervently seeking/calling out to him?
Study Text: Amos 9:14
Day 4
Sermon Reflection: The presenter posits that ‘we as a people should please GOD more than any other generation because we have greater access to the knowledge of what HE actually wants.”
Question: Reflect on your own knowledge of what God wants from us and identify scripture references to support your responses.
Study Text: Micah 6:8
Day 5)
Sermon Reflection: We are sometimes more faithful to our worldly accomplishments and the things that our hands have made than we are to serving God.
Question: How can believers accomplish a healthy perspective of seeking after the things of God and the pursuit of earthly gain, without allowing the “vision of ourself [to] eclipse [s] the vision of who the ALMIGHTY really is.”
Study Text: Jeremiah 29:12-14
