SERIES MAIN IDEA:

When you are saved, Jesus renews you spiritually into a new person.

After you are saved, Jesus empowers you to transform your heart and mind.

1 John 4:18

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear NIV

Matt 6:33-34a

Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. 34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. ESV

Proverbs 12:25

An anxious heart weighs a man down…

Let’s see if you have an anxious heart…

6 CHARACTERISTICS OF AN ANXIOUS HEART

  1. Are you rattled when things don’t go as you expected?

  2. Do you often worry about things beyond your control?

  3. Do you lose sleep over pressing issues?

  4. Is it hard to “turn off” your mind?

  5. Does the unknown intimidate you?

  6. Do you often imagine the worst-case scenario?

  • If 3 of the 6 is a yes…you have an anxious heart

2 THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT FEAR:

  1. Fear creates a false emotion that forces you to become irrational and unstable….

1 Sam 13:7-11

…Saul remained at Gilgal, and all the troops with him were quaking with fear. 8 He waited seven days, the time set by Samuel; but Samuel did not come to Gilgal, and Saul’s men began to scatter. 9 So he said, “Bring me the burnt offering and the fellowship offerings.” …10 Just as he finished making the offering, Samuel arrived, and Saul went out to greet him. 11 “What have you done?” asked Samuel. (Later in 1 Sam. 15:24) …I have sinned. I violated the LORD’s command…I was afraid of the people and so I gave in to them.’ NIV

2.Giving into that false fear makes you even more miserable

1 Sam 18:11-12

(When David was playing music for Saul to cheer him up) Saul had a spear in his hand 11 and he hurled it, saying to himself, “I’ll pin David to the wall.” But David eluded him twice. 12 Saul was afraid of David, because the Lord was with David but had departed from Saul. NIV

2 Timothy 1:7

For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. KJV

MAIN IDEA:

Before God transforms us…we are anxious until we are REMOVED from fearful situations.

Being transformed is learning to find the calm IN the chaos.

HOW TO FIND HIS PEACE IN OUR FEARS:

Take your mind off the “what if’s” and focus on who He is.

Luke 21:14

Make up your mind not to worry beforehand… NIV

Take it off the “what if’s” and put it on the “He is”

HE IS:

Abba: Father

Alpha and Omega: The Beginning and End

El Shaddai: God Almighty

Elohim: The Creator

Jehovah-Jireh: The LORD Our Provider

Jehovah-Rapha: The LORD Our Healer

Jehovah-Shalom: The LORD is Peace

Philippians 4:6-7

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds…

Psalms 50:14-15

Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God…Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you… (NLT)

BACK TO THE ASSESSMENT

  1. Focus on God’s perfect love.

  2. Speak His thoughts over yourself

  3. Decide who you will trust more

  4. Call a friend – Reach out

  5. Go find things to do that help you have fun

IN CLOSING:

THE KEY: Learn to anchor into Jesus

Psalm 23:5

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: KJV
