Peace OF God?
• The most highlighted verse in the Amazon Kindle version is Philippians 4:4-7, which says, “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
• But why is that? Why is peace something that we struggle to find? Could it be that we are looking for peace in this
1 John 3:16-17 | For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. 17 And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.
Colossians 3:1-3 | If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
• While this kind of peace is important, let’s be clear: This is not the kind of peace that Paul is talking about in Romans 5:1. Paul is not talking about the peace OF God. He is talking about peace WITH God.

The Peace You’ve Always Wanted
• Ecclesiastes 3:11 | …Also, he has put eternity into man’s heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end. >> There is a longing at the core of who we are to know God and know what He is doing. Sin separates us from God so we cannot know it, but the longing remains. We long for the peace of knowing God.
• J.C. Ryle >> Without justification it is impossible to have real peace. Conscience forbids it. Sin is a mountain between a man and God, and must be taken away. The sense of guilt lies heavy on the heart and must be removed. Unpardoned sin will murder peace. The true Christian knows all this well. His peace arises from a consciousness of his sins being forgiven, and his guilt being put away. … He has peace with God, because he is justified.
• Augustine >> Our hearts are restless until they find their rest in thee
• Every person who puts their faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ receives the full measure of the peace that Christ purchased for them. This is crucial! You may have heard someone speak of the need to receive “a second blessing” or “a second work of grace” referring to what they think is a post-salvation experience. It is not that believers lack a second blessing experience but that even some Christians after trusting in the grace of Christ to make them right with God fall back into a pattern of works.
