Sermon Title & Text “A Changed Mind” Mark 15:42-47 ESV
Message in a Sentence: A life of,repentance has to follow a confession
of Christ.
- The centurion in charge of the crucifixion of Christ confessed Christ
but, we can t definitively know what he did or expressed his faith after
the cross. Conversely, we did not hearthe confession of Joseph of
Arimathea but his actions told the slory of Christ in his life. - The Day Of Preparation is the Friday before the Sabaath
- Joseph of Arimathea is not someone that gets a lot of attention, but he
represents a transformative, repentant lifestyle that comes from Christ’s
work on the cross. Joseph of Arimathea, before the cross:
a. Respected Member of Sanhedrin Council
b. Didn’t consent to decision & action against Christ [Lk 23:51]
c. Looking for the Kingdom of God [Jn 19:38 Secret Disciple]
d. Rich [cf Mt 27:57]
4 Joseph witnessed the cruciflxion, and was in awe, like the others that
were there, cf Mt 27:54. His “awe” of the Cross of Christ led to
repentance - a changed mind. Perhaps the outside world saw the Day of
Preparation as Joseph’s motivation. But his true motivation came from
the cross:
a. Courage to Challenge
b. Respected the Body of Christ
c. Valued Christ [protected]
d. Gave what he had for Christ Mt 27:60
