1. Pastor Robert described the tablets of the Ten Commandments as God’s wedding ring for his people. Have you thought of the tablets in this way? What is the effect of thinking of God’s laws in this light?
2. We can always go deeper with God…do you believe that? What are the times or situations that seem to be optimal times for going deeper?
3. Does your sin tend to push you away from God or draw you to God?
4. Pastor Robert noted that Satan often tries to trick us twice about sin: before we sin (It’s no big deal…just go for it…) and after we sin (That was a big deal…God’s not going to forgive you for doing that.). Have you heard these lies? Does one or the other of these lies tend to trip you up?
5. What are the implications of believing that we can go deeper with God when we sin, fail, and fall short? What happens when we realize that sweet times with God are possible amidst failure?
6. Moses first prayer in Exodus 33 is in verse 13: “teach me your ways.” It was a recognition of the mystery of God; a request for God to “teach me to love you.” What are the ways that God answers this request for you and me?
7. Pastor Robert noted that God provides a four-point sermon about his ways: He is, 1) compassionate, 2) gracious, 3) slow to anger, and 4) abounding in love. Which of these four points do you know best? Which of these do you know and believe least?
8. If we think of God’s glory as “weight,” as the evidence of his presence and work, what are times where his glory has been particularly evident to you?
9. How close to God do you want to be?
10. All we have to do is ask God to take us deeper, to draw close to us…what keeps you from making this request?
PRAYER
Ask God for the boldness of Moses, to have the courage to boldly ask God to take you deeper after you’ve sinned and fallen short.
Praise God for His ways, for His compassion, grace, slowness to anger, and abounding love that are the “Why” behind all that He has done and is doing.
Praise God for His glory, His weight and presence. Celebrate His glory in your life and the lives of those around you.
Ask God to teach you His ways, to show you His glory, and to lead you to Jesus.
