GOD WON’T GIVE YOU MORE THAN YOU CAN HANDLE

THINGS JESUS NEVER SAID: Part 5

Pastor Brian

WHY GOD ALLOWS MORE THAN WE CAN HANDLE

 1. God uses burdens to me.

“[Jonah] prayed: “In trouble, deep trouble, I prayed to GOD. He answered me. From the belly of the grave I cried, ‘Help!’ You heard my cry.” (Jonah 2:2, The Message)

2. God uses temptations to

me.

“No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face. All you need to remember is that God will never let you down; he’ll never let you be pushed past your limit; he’ll always be there to help you come through it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13, The Message)

3. God uses troubles to

me.

“And we know that all that happens to us is working for our good if we love God and are fitting into his plans. For from the very beginning God decided that those who came to him—and all along he knew who would—should become like his Son…” (Romans 8:28–29, The Living Bible)

“This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses since he had the same temptations we do, though he never once gave way to them…” (Hebrews 4:15, The Living Bible)

HOW JESUS HANDLED THE UNHANDLE-ABLE

1. He got away from the .

“Then Jesus went with the disciples to a place called Gethsemane…” (Matthew 26:36, GW)

“News about Jesus kept spreading. Large crowds came to listen to him teach and to be healed of their diseases. But Jesus would often go to some place where he could be alone and pray.” (Luke 5:15–16, CEV)

2. He surrounded himself with

.

“He took Peter and Zebedee’s two sons, James and John, and he became anguished and distressed.” (Matthew 26:37, NLT)

“Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other…If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble…A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.” (Ecclesiastes 4:9–12, NLT)

3. He poured out His

to God.

    a. He prayed .

“He went on a little farther and fell to the ground.” (Mark 14:35, NLT)

“Then Jesus left them again and prayed the same prayer as before.” (Mark 14:39, NLT)

“So he went to pray a third time, saying the same things again.” (Matthew 26:44, NLT)

“Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers…” (Ephesians 6:18, NLT)

    b. He prayed .

“…he became deeply troubled and distressed. He told them, “My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”” (Mark 14:33–34, NLT)

“He prayed more fervently, and he was in such agony of spirit that his sweat fell to the ground like great drops of blood.” (Luke 22:44, NLT)

“My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me…” (Matthew 26:39, NLT)

“Then Jesus left them a second time and prayed, “My Father! If this cup cannot be taken away unless I drink it…”” (Matthew 26:42, NLT)

    c. He prayed .

“And He said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for You…not what I will, but what You will.”” (Mark 14:36, NKJV)

      • He surrendered His struggle.
      • He counted on God’s character.

“Trust GOD from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for GOD’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track. Don’t assume that you know it all. Run to GOD!” (Proverbs 3:5–7, The Message)

 4. He received the He needed.

“Get up! Let’s [roll]! My betrayer is here.”” (Matthew 26:46, The Message/Mossolonian)

“…So to keep me from becoming proud, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger from Satan to torment me and keep me from becoming proud. Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me…For when I am weak, then I am strong.” (2 Corinthians 12:7–10, NLT)
